"Ow-pra"

Films: Phantom of the Opera (1962)

Alias: The Phantom

Type: Natural

Location: Haunted Home

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Good

Summary: Well, we couldn't get Erik on the line (mainly because of that mob, but whatever), but we got this guy instead. And we suppose that's good enough for a "Phantom of the Opera" story, right? Eh, there's worse.

History: Long ago, Professor Petrie had a thing for writing music. But a greedy lord tricked him into selling his work to him for recognition, only for that lord to take all the credit. In a rage, Petrie burned all records of his work, but started a fire, got nitric acid to the face thinking it was water, and everyone just assumed he went and drowned in the River Thames. But he's back for revenge, coaching a young singer, and will make sure she lands the role, complete with a dwarf assistant!

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After scarring the lord away, Petrie has the honor of seeing his singer on stage, but doesn't notice his dwarf friend trying to sabotage it all by dropping a chandelier on her. Petrie catches wind of it, and pushes her out of the way, getting crushed in the process. A tragic end for a tragic being.

Powers/Abilities: None.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 2.5-His face may look rather bloodied and grotesque (and his mask is rather unsettling), but this is one of the more sympathetic portrayals of the Phantom. He just wanted a good performance, and he got one. Too bad it ended so badly.

Trivia: -Petrie was played by Herbert Lom, who would eventually be known for playing as Charles Dreyfus, a recurring antagonist in the "Pink Panther" series.

-Years before this film came to be, Universal and Hammer kept coming to and away from this film's production, never quite sure if it would work after the success of the 40's original. Production ultimately began in 1961.

"THIS WAS A REALLY BAD IDEA!"

Out of the fire and into the audience.

What was wrong with 2 eyeholes? Oh....
Nothing says "fabulous" like a maniac flinging himself from a flaming chandelier.

It's a bit chilly there, wouldn't you say?

The enlightened Phantom.

"This time, let ME remove my mask."

With a face like that, I'm surprised he can speak clearly.
